OnlyFans has added NFT profile pics, but still doesn't actually solve the problem faced by adult content creators
Another day, another Web2 company jumping aboard the crypto bandwagon and tricking the uninformed into believing that they’re now Web3.
This time we have our old friend OnlyFans, who today announced that they would support NFT profile pictures.
Oh cool, right?
Well, the mainstream media view seems to think so.
But once again it seems that nobody even wants to understand the problems that adult content creators face, let alone how Web3 can solve them.
Let me tell you, adding the ability to put a random Ethereum-based NFT as your profile pic on their platform isn't what they're looking for.
The problem faced by adult content creators
So woo, NFTs.
Gotta get those buzzwords in.
But as I said above, this actually does nothing to solve the actual problem that adult content creators face.
The problem?
That your entire business is based on a profile which a single 3rd party controls.
Ask yourself, why would you risk your business on a platform that can ban you on a whim at any time they please?
Why would you allow yourself even the chance of losing all of your followers and therefore your entire ability to conduct business as a result?
As a business owner, having this risk hanging over you at all times is ludicrous.
I mean, I’m sure that OnlyFans won’t screw you over.
You’re special.
You and your business are different, you’re not doing anything to deserve getting banned.
Maybe.
Probably…
Are you starting to think about what would actually happen to your business if this happened?
Not good, is it?
OnlyFans has a history of censoring adult content creators
I mean the concept of being deplatformed as an adult content creator isn’t even that wild.
Heck, OnlyFans has already said they were banning porn once.
What’s to say they won’t do it again?
We continue to see what’s morally acceptable in the mainstream being decided by corporations and the vested interests of their shareholders.
Maybe your naughty little kink won’t be looked upon so fondly next month?
Who knows.
The point being, why the fuck would you risk it?
The key is understanding the difference between a platform that says it won’t ban you and a platform where it is technically impossible to ban, or even censor your content.
Hive offers a solution to adult content creators
So with all of this in mind as an adult content creator, is there a solution?
Of course there is!
The best alternative to OnlyFans is an account you own and control, on a fully decentralised network.
When looking for suitable blockchains that can handle the type of Web3 social content and microtransactions required to support an adult content creation business, you’ll soon discover that your shortlist is relatively small.
And what sits at the top of this relatively small shortlist?
The solution is a Web3 Hive account that you own via a set of private keys.
Not only does a Hive crypto account allow you to continue conducting business your way, forever via its immutable, censorship-resistant properties.
But allows you to monetise your content in a range of ways thanks to the layers of rewards available using various front-ends built on the Hive blockchain.
The game is changing and you have a golden opportunity to change along with it.
