Vitalik Buterin - It’s time to embrace Web3 social media on Hive.
Did you see that our old friend Vitalik Buterin recently Tweeted his new social accounts?
So we got Vitalik’s…:
- Telegram - Check.
- ENS - Not sure but okay, check.
- Reddit - Lol okay, check.
- Mastodon - for now anyway check.
- Farcaster... dafuk??
But yep, there looks to be one glaring admission on that list of socials.
That’s right, there’s no Hive account to access any of Hive’s Web3 social media ecosystem…
You know, the only battle hardened, proven to be censorship-resistant social media protocol on the planet.
Hive offers the best working solution to the social media conundrum.
Unfortunately, Hive just isn't significant enough to matter to any big players in the space right now.
That’s the harsh truth and Hive’s slow fade into obscurity continues.
You can see under that original Tweet from Vitalik that there are plenty of replies from our extended community asking him about Hive, sure.
But instead of looking like the working, battle tested solution that we are.
It just looks like we’re beggars alongside the rest of the morons trying to pump their own fake Web3 social bags.
Super frustrating.
Vitalik no doubt understands the problem that users on Web2 social media platforms face.
He gets the tech that is required to solve said problems of censorship-resistance and account ownership.
Yet he refuses to acknowledge that Hive exists or actually practise what he preaches in terms of the tech available.
Why?
Vitalik, it’s time to embrace Web3 social media on Hive.
Why don't influencers in the crypto niche actually use Web3 social media platforms?
Now I know that Vitalik isn’t your average crypto influencer and I’m certainly not saying as such.
However, if we can’t even get those like him who are genuinely in it for the tech to use the Web3 social media solutions being built, then how are we expected to get even the shills to use them?
There are just so many ethical concerns surrounding crypto influencers pushing the benefits of Web3, while being paid to remain on Web2 platforms.
Yes, of course I understand that while the financial incentive is there, that’s where they’ll remain.
But in my opinion, it’s EXTREMELY unethical for influencers to promote the benefits of Web3 technologies and social media platforms while continuing to exclusively use Web2 platforms for their own personal gain.
Of course it gives the impression that the influencer is genuinely advocating for and using these technologies.
When the reality is that they are not and have no intention to.
By not using the social platforms that actually integrate the tech that they are promoting, influencers may be misleading their audience.
Not to mention benefiting financially from their advocacy, while not fully aligning with the values and principles they espouse.
Right or wrong, influencers have a certain level of credibility with their audience, and it is important for them to be transparently honest about their actions and motivations.
For me, there’s nothing more infuriating than watching crypto influencers complain when they’re banned from Web2 social media.
They’re suddenly shocked and appalled when they’re unable to put their offer in front of their audience on a Web2 social account because a centralised entity has decided they are no longer allowed.
Umm, isn’t this what you’ve been telling everyone else?
If only we had genuine influencers in the space like Vitalik Buterin, who advocated for the tech by actually using the best Web3 social media solutions available.
Yeah if only...
